Tanzania’s Labor Market in Transition: Challenges and Opportunities
This paper examines the dynamics of Tanzania’s labor market in the context of rapid demographic and economic transformations. It evaluates significant employment trends, demographic challenges, skill shortages, and sector forecasts to offer practical recommendations for workforce policies and programs. Emphasising the difficulties brought about by a rising youth population and a scarcity of formal job prospects, the paper calls attention to the urgent requirement for creative strategies to tackle youth unemployment and underemployment. Additionally, it examines new opportunities within high-growth industries and highlights the necessity of aligning education and skills training with market needs. The conclusions aim to assist policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders in formulating evidence-based measures that promote inclusive and sustainable employment for the future workforce of Tanzania.
